Age Is Just a Number: How to Look Great for Women Over 50

For me, the epitome of a gorgeous woman is Meryl Streep and I realized that while watching her at this year’s Oscars. Maybe it was because of her sky-high confidence that really shined among many of the insecure and half naked 20-something actresses. Gracefully strolling down the red carpet, she felt comfortable in her own skin no matter her age. But, we shouldn’t forget that there’s also a whole posse of fashion stylists, hairdressers and make up artists that made her look that way. However, I think even if she didn’t have the luck of being a movie star, she’d still look as flawless as she does today. Frankly, all it takes is self care. Here are some great starting points to look as good and as young as possible.

Visit a Professional

Don’t be ashamed to ask for professional help. Plastic surgery should be out of the way, because in a lot of cases it generates horrifying results where people can no longer recognize themselves. But most skin clinic treatments are non-invasive and use methods to stimulate the skin to regenerate itself. One of the most popular skin clinic treatments is microdermabrasion as it can solve a number of problems simultaneously, such as removing ultrafine lines, rejuvenating the complexion and improving the skin tone. It sprays tiny crystals on the skin which exfoliate it and make way for a new smoother layer of skin to start building.

Another effective and at the same time safe skin treatment is a retinol peel. Retinol is another word for Vitamin A, and we all know how this vitamin works like magic in rejuvenating the skin. Unlike some chemical peels, retinol does not use any heat or have an unpleasant sensation on the skin. It can be used on all parts of the body, but most women swear on its effectiveness in removing neck wrinkles. These are just some of the many skin clinic treatments designed for bringing back the skin’s natural elasticity and glow. Today’s skin care technology is so evolved that there are virtually no risks.

Create Healthy Habits

It’s always good to turn to a healthier lifestyle on time, before the first signs of ageing have started to appear. Not only will it prolong your lifespan and improve your quality of life, but it will also help retain your beautiful and youthful appearance. Good nutrition will help your body repair itself. Include some proteins and antioxidants in each meal and try to avoid food with high cholesterol levels. In order to keep your skin’s elasticity, you should drink between 1 – 3 litres of water a day. But don’t forget to hydrate on the outside too. Use moisturizing creams and lotions after every wash. If you smoke, consider quitting this nasty habit. Smoking, besides being bad for the lungs, is the number one cause of premature ageing. Exercise more to remain fit and active, but also to keep your muscles strong.

Additional Tips

A fun and positive outlook will always keep your spirit young no matter your age. Live life as vigorously as you can. Go to concerts. The Rolling Stones are still playing and Mick Jagger is still as handsome as when you were a teenage girl. Try new styles and bring the latest trends in your wardrobe. Don’t be afraid to spice things up with a fun new hair-colour. An ombre hairstyle will perfectly hide the grey roots and make you look chic. Who says experimenting is only reserved for the college kids? Try everything you always wanted to and have lots of fun while doing it!
